Aviation Engineering Student Presented His Research in SAWAE2020 Conference, Taiwan

On Friday 29 January 2021, Achmad Helmy Fikriansyah Buana Putra (AVE student batch 2017) presented his research result with the title “Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Analysis for ADS-B Data of Makassar-Jakarta Flight using Dot Product Method” in SAWAE 2020 Conference.

Required Navigation Performance (RNP) is known as a performance parameter for a navigation system, where its function is to keep an aircraft within certain radius of containment. During flight, an aircraft transmits its real time location based on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) technology via Automatic Dependence Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) protocol. The broadcasted aircraft data could be received by other aircrafts, ground receivers, and ATC in the vicinity. However, there are questions about the flight position accuracy. This research aims to calculate the accuracy of ADS-B flight data with regards to RNP requirement and how many percentages of aircrafts in the selected route are following the RNP.

The conference was held in Taiwan with virtual meeting format. The Southeast Asia Workshop on Aerospace Engineering (SAWAE) is organized in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Southeast Asia Network in Aerospace Engineering (SANAE). It was founded in 2016 and first hosted by National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. The subsequent SAWAE events were hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam, Kasetsart University, Thailand (2018), and Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2019). Detail of the conference information can be found in its website: https://sawae2020.sanae.asia/

The 5th workshop should be organized by National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, in 2020. However due to pandemic COVID-19, it was postponed and successfully conducted as the international conference online which held on January 29, 2021. The conference was started with a Plenary lecture which consist of 4 presentations:

  • “Vortex interaction on a LEX configuration” by Prof. J.J. Miau, NCKU, Taiwan
  • “Flows in Supersonic Air Intakes” by Prof. Sanjay Mittal, IIT Kanpur, India
  • “Distributed combustion of hydrogen-rich gaseous fuels” by Prof. Mustafa Ilbas, Gazi University, Turkey
  • “Air Transport Liberalisation in Thailand: Past, Present, and Future” by Prof. Navatasn Kongsamutr, Kasetsart University, Thailand

The workshop’s research presentation was a 15-minute non-live presentation, and all the speakers recorded the presentation in advance and submitted it online. Helmi’s presentation can be viewed via this link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDHCo3Oa4OM&ab_channel=HelmySalvation
