IULI Joins RBF Conference on Food and Agriculture

On the 4th-6th November 2019, our students Andrean Wangsa, Kustiyowati, Lidwina Kusumawardani Putri Biantoro (from Food Technology 2017), Bobby Adam, Kenny Kosasih (from Mechatronics Engineering 2016), Maganitri Kundala Putri, Devara Fadhlurrahman Trisna Saputra, Devia Avianty Agustine (from International Business Administration 2017), Bening Dharmadjati (from International Relations 2017), Viola Qatarisa, and Ikrar Fahmi (from International Relations 2019) volunteered for a conference held by the Responsible Business Forum (RBF) on Food and Agriculture, titled “Innovating Food & Nutrition Systems to Achieve SDG2” in the Pullman Hotel, Jakarta. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. SDG2 focuses on achieving zero hunger.

The speakers  spoke about the various causes of problems, how to solve them, and the ways for individuals to reach the final goal of SDG2. The event had many speakers from different backgrounds, which included business, agriculture, nutrition and agrobusiness. The main topics of discussion were accelerating the end of hunger and malnutrition by 2030, facing challenges and defining needs, inclusive, multi-stakeholder approaches to ending hunger and malnutrition, sustainable, healthy diets, review of SDG2 Indicators, methodologies for measurement, baselines and targets, accelerating digital technologies towards achieving SDG2, agenda setting: framing, implementing and reporting a multi-stakeholder national action plan on SDG2 – implications for selected National Sectoral Policies, SDG2 Indonesian National Action Plan Working Groups, and many more which were discussed in 4 separate rooms. The rooms were grouped based on the topics of discussion which were Staple Food Crops, Industrial & High Value Crops, Animal Protein, and Malnutrition. Our students volunteered in different areas in the event, some of which included registration, ushering, social media, and note-taking. On the second day, the event continued with a roundtable discussion where people shared opinions in their groups to give their goals and methods to attempt to reach SDG2, based on actions which can be carried out by NGOs, the government, and business companies. Viola’s superb notetaking skills caught the interest of a CP company, which made her a job offer!

The event was interesting and educational for a lot of people since hunger is a persisting issue that must be reduced, or even fully wiped out as it is the greatest cause of death for people in the world. Since the speakers had different origins and educational backgrounds, their methods and goals were various, which is a good way to reach the main goal of reducing world hunger.
